Historical Event on 5/11/1998

Three momentous events took place on the day that did the nation proud. Firstly, three underground nuclear tests at Pokhran Range in Rajasthan, which included a hydrogen bomb, were tested; secondly, the successful test firing of the 'Trishul Missile' and thirdly, the maiden Certification test flight of 'Hansa-3', the first-all Composite indigenous two seater aircraft.

10/17/1932Rani Gaidinliu, freedom fighter, social reformer and political leader, was captured by the British army.
6/1/1980AIADMK wins Tamil Nadu Assembly election; Congress (I) wins in U.P, M.P, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Maharashtra and Orissa.
6/18/1658Aurangzeb managed to capture the Agra Fort and later arrested his father Emperor Shahjahan.
6/23/1987D. Chakraborty was appointed as the Narcotics Commissioner of India. He headed this office till 02-07-1991.
6/22/1940Netaji Subhashchandra Bose established the 'Forward Block' after differences with Congress leaders.
6/23/1757The Battle of Plassey started between Robert Clive, incharge of British army, and Nawab of Bengal, Siraj -Ud -Daula. In this battle Robert Clive won control of Bengal.
2/6/1994World Marathi Chember of Commerce' established.
2/21/1899Suryakant Tripathi `Nirala', famous Hindi poet, was born.
10/22/1908John Sutton, actor (Tower of London, Return of Fly), was born in Rawalpindi, India.
1/4/1992The goverment promulgates an ordinance to prevent countermanding of election in the event of death of independent candidates.
