Historical Event on 2/26/1966

Vinayak Damodar Savarkar ""Veer Savarkar"", great revolutionary freedom fighter, social reformer, politician and writer, passed away at the ripe old age of 83. He was known for the first person to flee by swimming from Port Blair Jail and was associated with right-wing Hindu Mahasabha, started the Abinav Bharat as a secret society of revolutionary terrorists. He was a great Novelist and Poet.

10/20/1962China mounted a massive attacked in N.E.E.F.A. and Ladakh borders. Chinese army pushed Indians back. The real test of IAF airlift capability came when open warfare erupted on the Sino-lndian border, while operating to the tricky helipads in the mountains, including the operation of C-119Gs from airstrips 17,000 ft (5180m) above sea level in the Karakoram Himalayas, and the air-lifting by An-12Bs of two troops of AMX-13 light tanks to Chushul in Ladakh, where the small airstrip was 15,000 ft (4570m) above sea level.

It has 45 Central Research Institutes, 4 National Bureaux, 10 Project Directorates, 30 National Research Centres, 90 All India Co-ordinated Research Projects, 261 Krishi Vigyan Kendras and 8 Trainers Training Centres.

12/21/1990Former Union Finance Secretary S. Venkatramanan appointed Governor of RBI. B. Rachaiah and Dr. Sarup Singh sworn in as Governors of Kerala and Gujarat respectively.
1/4/1948Burma achieved its independence from Great Britain. In 1989, Burma changed its name to Myanmar to reflect the multi-ethnic composition of the country. Apart from the Burmese, the main ethnic minority groups are the Karen, Shan, Mon, Chin, and Kachin. Just as the Burmese did against the British, almost all of these ethnic groups have struggled against the Burmese government for self-determination.
