Historical Event on 9/23/1965

The Indian Army secured the Kashmir Valley and the only object left was to clean out the remnants of the Gibraltar Force. Under the guidance of United Nations, the cease-fire came into effect.

12/9/1946The first meeting of Constitutional Committee Assembly was held in Parliment after a gap of two years, 11 months and 17 days. The Congress started its work of framing the Indian Constitution. Muslim League boycott failed to prevent Constituent Assembly opening. From 16th August 1946, the country witnessed communal riots on an unprecedented scale. At this crucial juncture, on 20th February 1947, Clement Atlee the British prime minister, fixed June 1948 as a deadline for transfer of power and Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the new Viceroy.
6/1/1959N.G. Ranga resigned from the Indian National Congress and took up the leadership of the newly formed Swatantra Party.
8/21/1978Vinoo Mankad, cricketer, died. He played 44 tests for India and had 2109 runs and took 162 wickets.
3/10/1998B. B. Lyngdoh of the United Democratic Party is sworn in Chief Minister of Meghalaya. The 12-day-old Congress(I) Ministry resigned following the failure of the party nominee to be elected as Speaker.
8/12/1905Japan, Britain reach an accord determining spheres of influence in Far East; India to remain with the British.
10/1/1959Hon'ble Judge Bhuvaneshwar Prasad Sinha became the Chief Justice of India. He helded this office till 31/01/1964.
6/23/1980Sanjay Gandhi, great Indian politician and younger son of Indira Gandhi, died in a plane crash. He was recently appointed as the General Secretary of the AICC (I).
3/20/1977General Election (6th) of India ends. First time Indian National Congress Party lost in India.
