4/9/1965	Fighting breaks out in the Rann of Kutch between Indian and Pakistani troops. Pakistan attacked Indian borders, Sardar Post, Chhar Bet and Beria Bet, this was manned by the State Armed Police Batallions. In Kutch launched its 8th Infantry Division supported by two regiments of M47/48 Pattons. Operation 'Desert Hawk' was launched to draw away reserves from other vulnerable areas, and possibly to test India's resolve. The Indian Army did not rise to the bait.
10/26/1961	Heavy fighting flared up between India and Communist China in their three-year-old dispute over border lines in the Himalayas. Each side accused the other of initiating the fighting that began along the Tibetan border early in October.
4/12/1912	Kirpal Singh Narang, social reformer and educationist, was born at Amritsar (Punjab).
1/22/1996	Janata Dal parliamentary party leader Sharad Yadav resigns from Lok Sabha membership (Jain hawala case).
