V. K. Ramaswamy, cricket test umpire for 10 tests from 1984-till date, was born at Hyderabad. He has become one of the first Indian Test umpires to be invited to umpire in a foreign country along with P. D. Reporter.

5/12/1915Rash Behari Bose, revolutionary leader, left India by boarding a Japanese steamer ''Sanuki Maru'' under assumed name of P. N. Tagore to dodge the British forces.
1/18/1936Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), famous English writer and author, died in Burwash, England at 70. He was a young journalist in British India. He wrote in verses, stories, novels childen's stories some of these were ""The Jungle Book, Kim and Just-50 stories"" and was honoured with the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1907 for 'Kim' (Indian based story).
