Historical Event on 4/22/1992

IAF in response to a recommendation by Secretary General, the Security Council adopted resolution No. 751 (1992) by which it established UNOSOM for handling situation which had deteriorated to an extent where death and destruction forced hundreds of thousands of civilians to flee their homes and causing need for emergency humanitarian assistance.

4/22/1992Alauddin Khilji captured Chittorhgarh after defeating Rana Bhim Singh. Before the capture, Padmini, the beautiful queen along with several hundred females, had sacrificed herself in fire (Jouhar Pratha). This whole battle was fought due to Padmini.
6/25/1975President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed signed the declaration of Emergency Rule in India. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi implemented the same very next day.

6/27/1995Environmentalist and 'Chipko' leader, Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna ends the 49-day old fast in demand for a scientific review of the controversial Tehri dam project in UP.
3/20/1959For the first time, officials of the Indian government confirmed reports of widespread resistance to the Chinese occupying forces in Tibet. Open warfare erupted in the capital city of Lhasa.
7/10/1977The Planning Commission decides to introduce Rolling Plan concept.
8/5/1986Vellupillai Prabakaran, Tamil rebel leader, died. The vision of secession for Sri Lanka's Tamil minority may have come to an end. But so, too, might the violence that the nation had endured. Today, Tamil rebel leader Vellupillai Prabakaran accepted the peace accord signed last week by India and Sri Lanka. Prabakaran surrendered to Indian forces and his men turned over their weapons. The pact is seen as a compromise by the co-signers. But to the dejected Tamil leader, who has fought since childhood for a Tamil victory, it was a stinging defeat. The treaty creates an autonomous multi-religious zone in the eastern and northern provinces. The rebels dreamed and passed away for a separate state of their own.
