Historical Event on 3/24/1987

First developmental launch of new generation rocket ASLV 'Stretched Rohini Satellite Series' (SROSS-1). This carried payload for launch vehicle performance monitoring and for gamma ray astronomy. This plunged within two minutes and 40 seconds of its launching.

6/21/1948C. Rajagopalachari was appointed the first Indian Governor General of Indian union (21/06/1948-25/01/1950). After January 25, 1950, this post was abolished.
9/29/1997IRS-1D, fourth Indian Remote Sensing satellite, successfully launched off by PSLV-CI, the country's first operational polar satellite launch vehicle, from Sriharikota. With this launch, India became a member of the exclusive club of nations capable of launching the heavier class of satellites.

12/9/1946The first meeting of Constitutional Committee Assembly was held in Parliment after a gap of two years, 11 months and 17 days. The Congress started its work of framing the Indian Constitution. Muslim League boycott failed to prevent Constituent Assembly opening. From 16th August 1946, the country witnessed communal riots on an unprecedented scale. At this crucial juncture, on 20th February 1947, Clement Atlee the British prime minister, fixed June 1948 as a deadline for transfer of power and Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the new Viceroy.
